You don't really need that stout of a bullet for whitetails - especially at the range you mention.
I hunt Ontario, and seldomly have a shot over 100 yds. I use 180 grain ballistic tips loaded back to 2470 fps. I usually get bang/flop results on our deer, and they aren't all that much smaller than the western variety. I'd say if it works in Minnesota, it should do the same job in Saskatchewan.
