Source: Smith & Wesson will soon be introducing their new M&P model -- a full size DA only polymer frame pistol that is going to be available in .40 S&W first and then 9mm later this year. There will also be compact versions, a .357 SIG and eventually a .45 at a later date.

It has an ambidextrous slide stop and the magzine catch is reversible by the user if needed. Magazine capacity is 15 rounds in .40 and 17 in 9mm. The most noticeable feature is a great improvement in grips. The SW 99 had three interchangeable backstraps but this one has three interchangeable grip panels that also cover the sides and markedly change the feel of the grips. The medium and large panels have a noticeable palm swell and a rubber overmould. They can be changed by the user in a matter of seconds without tools. The trigger is said to be exceptional and has some pretty clever engineering. It is DAO at around 7 lb. but reportedly it feels like a good revolver and the takeup is consistent without stacking.

"S&W moves into 21st Century". Is this how it's being described. Sounds like a Glock? I know others think differently and I'm not wanting to disrespect their views but, I'm not a fan of plastic guns, anymore. I suppose this is what happens when you get old and stuck in your ways?

That's a sharp little pistol(as far as plastic pistols are sharp)...Looks like S&W may be attempting to take some market share from Glock and maybe cash in on some Police Department contracts.

Maybe I'm showing my age but I think that there is no finer looking auto-loader than a S&W third generation pistol.

:shock: I have to go along with S.B.  There is just something about holding a piece of plastic in my hand and having it go BANG.  Do you thing I could still be gun-shy from the Ruger .44 mag that blew up in my hand back in the early sixties?  For that reason I'm sticking to the all metal guns.................
