What,if any changes are you going to make on your line ?
« on: August 01, 2005, 04:03:12 AM »
1.When I start out after canines this fall,Oct 1,I'm going to increase the number of gland lure and urine sets(scent posts) over the previous years.Like 3 scent post to one food/curiosity set.
 2. I'm going to set more mink sets out.
3.I'm going to snares early rather than fight the freeze and thaw conditions.
4.Use more big hole sets and bone sets rather than standard dirtholes.
5.I'm going to go ask the ranchers who have reputations for not letting people on their place to hunt/trap for permission.I asked one guy last fall who hasn't let anybody on his place for 15+ years and he said go ahead. There's lots of talk around here about "Oh don't even bother to ask him,he won't let you on"When I take my wife along to get permission they always seem to say yes.
6.I'm going to have a fur hat made out of fur off my line, coyote, beaver or badger,I can't decided which one yet.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!

Bill, when on the water line this fall,I am going to try and make more sets for coon and mink and beaver, when setting up my muskrat line.
Going to try and take a bigger number of my secondary animals.

I'm going to set a little heavier at those really good sites and not spend as long in one spot anymore. Keep moving and come back later if the sign is still there.

I am not sure right now what changes , but my schedual at work changed  so I get out at about 2 pm now instead of 6-8 pm . That leaves ALOT of time to make changes .

With gas prices at $3 + per gallon come season....I'm going to see what I can catch in my back yard. LOL. Not many changes here, but will be able to focus a bit more now that I'm beyond the new born and house move.

definitely setting for more rats, mink, & coon. Will use those to cover my gas costs and to keep my overall catch high. Lined up several big farm ponds with lots of cattails and good numbers of all these species.

Will also leave some areas alone that I hit for last few years will little return at the locations. Not much sense pounding them again for just a small return/catch.

Ill be trapping smarter--not harder, in hopes of full stretchers.
I mean setting productive locations--not all locations.

In the past i lived by a simple theory--more traps would equal more fur, but now I have to put my past experiences to work---and learn from all the empty traps i had out...and set them where the fur will find them
