Need trap advice
« on: August 01, 2005, 07:51:47 AM »
The neighbors kids run around now, so I decided to stop shooting groundhogs in the back yard.  Bought a Hav-a-Heart type trap from the tractor store, put it just under a bush, threw in a carrot, and caught two groundhogs within a week of one another.  Got a terrapin the next week, then the neighbor's ferret.  That was a month ago, and since the ferret, I haven't caught anything.  It's possible I'm out of critters, but I suspect the munchers won't go in after the ferret was in the trap without some deodorizing.  Should I de-scent the trap?  If so, what can I do to de-scent the trap?  Should I move it after that?

Give the trap a good old fashioned bath in soap and water,Rinse well. Then let it dry out for a couple days in the sun.
A move of the trap may be in order, you may also want to expand the menu a bit--as far as bait is concerned.
