My Swiss K-31 and Reloads
« on: August 01, 2005, 03:56:37 PM »
Here's some info where I working up reloads for my Swiss 7.5x55.

The reload was 2.96" OAL and chronoed velocity averaged 2,305 fps.  The pressured ring averaged 0.499" a 0.003" increase to 0.496" case head.  Primers showed little sign of flattening.  I figure this load is 87% of Maximum.

Good shooting Ray. I shot my k-31 for the first time last weekend. I didn't do quite that well with my surplus ammo but I could tell the gun was going to be a shooter.  Do you recommend a source for brass.  All I have is the bearden primed stuff. I use 165 gr. Sierra Game Kings in my 30.06 because it will one hole em. Keep on shootin.

My 1975 Shooters Bible shows a 180 gn bullet at 2650'/sec for the 7.5x55 Swiss round.  I recall, but can't yet relocate the data, using Norma data and powder to duplicate the Norma loads at that level.  I also recall my K-31 being extremely accurate with those loads.  I'll keep lookin' for the data and post it when I find it.  HTH.  Mikey.

46 Grains of 4350 and a 175 or 180 grain bullet will put you right in the 2500 fps range.

Many load this round beyond the Swiss pressure limits, and it's probably ok since the ammo is loaded in deference to some of the older S&R models.

BTW, the load above is the Hodgdon max load for the 180 bullet.

Sure would like to have a look-see at that Norma data!!

Longcruise,

I'm still working up to a max.
I would prefer to use the 180 SGKs but the 180s at that low OAL it took up too much space in the case.  That's when I changed to the 165s.  Still have quite a lot of 180s left - Maybe I'll come back to them after I find out what the 165s will do.

Thanks
    Ray

james,

I'm using reformed 284 Winchester Brass.  Have a back order placed with Graf and Sons for some brass - They say they will have some this summer - We'll see?

There is also some Prvi 7.5x55 Swiss Ammo 174 gr. FMJ-bt
around that is boxer primed and can be reloaded - If you can find it.
