I just bought a $12 pair of LaCrosse rubber boots today. These ones were made before LaCrosse outsourced their manufacturing to china, and sat on a dusty store shelve for quite a few years. I also picked up a pair of iceman boots just before the big switcheroo a few years back. Right after I got the MADE IN U.S.A icemen I started to see MADE IN CHINA icemen on the shelves, and LaCrosse got a nastygram e-mail from me.
The point of my rambling is that I can't seem to find too many companies who still make products for Americans by Americans. Even the big premium names like Woolrich and LaCrosse are outsourcing, leaving only the ultra-premiums like Chippewa and Filson, and a few working man's brands like Bemidji woolens.
Now I am looking for a pair of hip boots. I have checked out LaCrosse, Red Ball (owned by Lacrosse), Hodgman, Servus, and a few others, and they all seem to be made in china or some other asian country. Some red balls are still assembled in the USA, and a few boxes on the shelve still say Made in USA, but I think that is old stock as well. What the heck is happening!
I am trying to locate a brand of old fashioned hip boots that are still made or assembled in the USA. Does anybody know of any brands that might be worth checking out?
