I am about to order a McMillan stock for a hunter rifle built on a Win 52D action.  What pattern would you guys recommend?
Thanks

Gotta agree with Dave, I have been shooting a 1712 in Mark's stock all year. It works better than anything else I have had. I liked it so much he has another gun of mine now that he is putting in the same hunter stock. Mark also does quality work.  Bill R

Hi guys I shoot a 52D in a slee Anschutz style but in Australia it is  the custom class. All hunter class gun here are stock rifles as per factory mostly brno's,  then sako's and anschutz. How do you get a Win52D back to a hunter when it has a bull barrel and would not go weight without changing the barrel ect. Regards Phill

PJ

Several years ago, US rules for hunter underwent a nearly complete revision (reversal?).

Currently, anything that makes weight, has a tapered bbl no longer than 26" and 'looks' like a hunting rifle is legal -- factory or full custom. It's pretty gray but, seemingly in the opinion of almost everyone,  it's an improvement.

The change was led by Alpine Machine Company's introduction of new hunter rifles that were 'factory built' (Alpine Machine is a small,  licensed firearms manufacturer) to be specific to the rules for silhouette hunter. That more or less forced the NRA to open up the class.
Alpine designed a fairly radical new stock that is 'nearly' (but not absolutely) perfect for the game and then released the sales rights to Nesika Bay.
Mark Pharr took that stock, fixed its few problems and now markets the improved version under his name.
I think that you'd find that anyone who has used one would agree that Dave and Hornet are right -- Mark's stock is superior to anything else on the market for silhouette.

Mark doesn't have a website.

His email is: ttumbleweeds(remove this space)@yahoo.com

He'll happily provide pics of stocks and completed rifles...

I currently shoot a 1712 in a McMillian... When I held and shot the finished Pharr stock in Florida this year, it took me about ...3 days to get an action in the mail to him....

Hardest thing is picking the color...LOL

Here is mine...

So...What's available for us left handers? I was disappointed to find out that the new Anschutz sillhouette sporter is in right hand stock only. Any suggestions?

Talk to Mark.
I know that he has a guy with a pantograph that will turn out his design in wood.
(I have a shaped blank in my work room that belongs to a friend. Just waiting for him to decide what he wants to put in it. Price is reasonable and delivery is fast.)
Don't know if he can mirror image it for one of you sinister types...

Mark will be carving one of his hunter stocks out of this for me,

Going to build another 40x rimfire, one of my first silhouette rifles had a maple stock, just had to have one again.

Later, Paul

Just received a new McMillan Anschultz silhouette, for a 54 action, and was dissapointed. KInletted wrong trigger guard and escutcheon didn't fit, but I was most upset by the spaccing between the barrrel and sides of barrel chanel. One side was fine other was tighter and uneven.

A friend just received a new Mark Pharr stock for a 700 action and it was perfect. I was very impressed.
