Author Topic: New safety on the SA 1911a1's (Read 856 times)

I went just browsing today and while looking I seen the new safety on the SA 1911a1's its a key hole in the spring housing. It comes with a key loc to make the gun so the hammer can't be kocked it actually locks the hammer closed. I think the key when it turns goes against the hammer spring so the hammer can't be kocked to the firing position. Has anyone seen this yet??

Ok gentlemen start your 45's!!!!! No one allowed on the firing range unless your 45 is locked!!!! Ok where do you keep that little key? Do you tell the bad guy to wait a minute while you find the key to unloc and start up your 45? So is being more safe letting one guy hold the gun and another hold the key to it? If i lock it and put it in the safe so its double safe?? Sorry but i had to fly a little with it, i think its getting silly we need to be more responcible gun owners to keep them locked up properly when little kids are around. I don't think these newer key lock guns will make any difference in gun safety since most of these accidents are with older guns that are miss handled.

Both my SA's came with the key lock. They were unlocked from the factory, or at least from my dealer, and they will never be locked as long as I own them. Just a nuisance and something else to drive the price up.

Theres supposed to alot of new Smith&Wesson revolvers coming out with this to!

I am already missing the "good ol' days"! I say if you want a certain handgun of any kind, you had better do it now! My guess is in 5 years time ALL new handguns with have this key lock thing.

All you have to do is buy a new mainspring housing if you don't like the lock. Brownell's sells them for as little as $9.25.

When this idea falls by the wayside along with the popiels pocket fisherman it could become a collectable like the popiels are now??? I hope it doesn't catch on like a wild fire with every gun manufacturer doing it? Better by up all the older guns up now!!!! Quick!!!!

Hey,, I loved my pocket fisherman.. Well I wish I would have kept track of it any way. What the heck ever happened to that thing. I remember being twelve or so and geting that for christmas.. "WOW I loved it.! caught alot of perch and suckers.. Not exactly game fish but a whole lot of fun. I sold my Milspec SA with that feature.. It just PI%$#& me off. Look foward to lots more stupid safety gagets.. Love my SA XD. No stupid safetys.. all internal and inherent. The Croatians lack all out greedy ambulance chaceing lawyers. You can guess what I thing of them.. Get one before these features appear.. Remember ther is a Harvard idiot looking for something to do.

I just bought a SA .45 Ultra Compact and the manual says it has one, and it came with keys, but I don't see the hole it's supposed to have. Oh well, I won't miss it.

There's a little round hole in the spring housing under the rear safety. This is where the key locs the spring so it can't bend whern the hammer is kocked it prevents the hammer from leaving the closed position. I had to show this to my dealer too he didn't know about it too. I read about it on another forum before i seen it.

Yeah, it's the funniest thing. The manual shows where it's supposed to be, but mine doesn't have the two little holes :shock:

I don't reall care, I would never use it I think. My kids have shot many of my guns, so the curiocity would never cause them to handle them without my supervision.
