Getting ready to flex hone my chambers
« on: August 05, 2005, 08:46:58 AM »
Now that I've got the Spanish mule ear all back together and working it's time to do something else to it.

I noticed that the shells DON'T drop out of the chambers, in fact you have to apply a bunch of force to get them out.  So this pm I'll be trying Brownells 12 ga chamber hone on her.  See if all the $$ I spent will be worth it

What is the number for 911?

Did both my shotgun and .38 Sp.  Learned some things (which is good 'cause everything I do is a learning experience.)

Don't do this in you Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes and definitely not over the new rug.  It does make a mess and I'm not talking about slinging oil.  I'm talking about dripping off my hands, off the flex hone as you bring it to the gun, out the barrels.  It is a messy job.  But in a matter of seconds it does the trick!

The Spanish mule ear before would not extract fully loaded shotshells--no expansion with brand new shells and they wouldn't fall out.  With about 30 seconds each barrel max my fired hulls drop right out.

Same with the .38 but you have to do it 6 times for each chamber.  Same tune--bigger mess.

One thing Brownells says not to do is pull or push the hone out of the chamber while it is running.  I ignored this and didn't see any problems.  I did keep the rpms down as instructed.

Noted the little balls on the flex hone show some wear so I guess they do wear out if you use it long enough.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to mount an extension on the short pistol hone so I can do my .45 Colt Marlin.  I'm too cheap to my the long shank one--I'll figure something out.
