hans - the longer the barrel the faster the velocity (within limits) and the greater the expansion. However, out to 50 yds you may not get much expansion at all. There are some folks who use the truncated or flatnosed bullet in the 22lr to make up for a lack of expansion out to that distance. There also is 'one of those devices' that allows you to flatnose your 22 slug for better impact effectiveness.
I think this is one of those questions that can be explained best through testing in your own personal guns. Thankfully, 22lrs are inexpensive enough to conduct a lot of testing. Have fun. Mikey.
