Ruger made the 357 Max in 7.5" and 10.5" barrels in both stainless and blue. They went into production in 1982 and were dropped in 1984 because of excessive flame cutting on the top strap. 1982 S/N 600-00001 to 600-00549, 1983 S/N 600-00550 to 600-07733, 1984 S/N 600-07734 to 600-16314. There were also a handful of prototypes not included in the 16314 production guns. Sorry, I don't know how many were in each barrel length, blue or stainless.

I never saw a Ruger "Max" in stainless --- are you sure that they came in stainless ? Do not recall ever seeing a mention of this.

I looked it up in Red Eagle News Exchange (RENE), which is a Ruger reference. There were only 3 stainless guns made in the 10.5" barrel, Model KBNM-10, S/N 600-00123, 600-00124, and 600-00125. 3 more were serial numbered but there is no known reference. So if you have one of these six guns, you have a gold mine. Actually, S/N 123 is known to be in a private collection. S/N 124 and 125 were retained by Ruger.

So for all practical purposes, there weren't any stainless guns available to the general public, but they did make a few.
