I just thought of another reason --I can stack more in the closet than I can bolt guns that dang bolt sticks out and takes up room.

I got a Stevens 16 ga. for CHRISTmas when I was 12. Single shot and full choke. I like simplicity! :yeah: Still have it. I've wanted more guns and the handis fit the bill. I can get anything I want and it won't send me to the poorhouse. Plus, accuracy is a plus. With other guns, you might end up paying for the name. My take, simple, rugged, accuracy second to none, and if I have a problem, I come here to this forum to get advise! :toast:    What more can you ask for? :D

Wanted an inexpensive back up rifle to pack 270 around in the truck. Added a shot gun & 45-70 & 223 to the frame about 6 years ago & now I try and add another when I can (confession: I have sold others to purchase handies)

Oh what great fun :D

How does recoil compare with the 45-70 and 500 S&W? Really rather have the 460 S&W (are you lisening H&R?) :D

I too would rather have the 460.  When I called H&R about 500 barrels I inquired about the possibility of a 460 and was told they have no plans to make a 460 at this time.  Hopefully if the 500 sells they will chamber the 460.  The versitility of 460, 454, 45LC in a handi would be awesome.

As far as recoil I don't have any true comparison due to differences in the rifles and loads I've been shooting but in my situation the 500 has as much percieved recoil as my 45-70.  My 500 barrel is on a synthetic stocked handi with no additional weight in the stock, my 45-70 has heavier laminate stocks, I typically shoot mid-range 45-70 loads where the 500 loads I've been shooting are near max.  I will say the recoil is a little more than I expected out of a handgun round.
