.223 ultra range report... sorta

i had a chance to get out and shoot my .223 ultra today
at least a few shots to make sure it goes bang
i only have room to shoot abt 30 yards and used a winchester 45 grain varmint bullet but the first two shots went into one ragged hole measuring 1/8 inch
i then put umc 55 grain metal case in it and those two opened the group up to 3/8 inch
not to bad for the first four rounds from it resting on a shakey old barstool shooting thru brush at a paper plate with a spot on it the size of a quarter
which btw all the bullets were centered on the spot
im happy

sureshot;
Glad you like your Ultra. Man they are a lot of fun. My Ultra sports the synthetic stocks, sold the wood ones to Quick. But this rifle goes with me to the range every time. I'm shooting PMP FMJ's 55gr. BT's. Savin the WWB 45gr's. for PD huntin.
I don't even look at bolt rifles anymore.
Keep us posted on your shooting when you can get to 100yds. It will be a hoot to shoot. :wink:

Here is what my 223 Ultra will do at 100 yards. 2 three shot groups. Havn't took the time to find out what is causing one of the rounds in each group to spread. Havn't done anything to mine yet. Same as came out of the box.

H&R/NEF's seem to like Hornady, .17 SPortsters like the hornady and the .223 too.
