480 Ruger
« on: August 07, 2005, 06:22:56 AM »
Hello, I am new here and the black bear hunting. I am using a Taurus Raging Bull with a 6.5 inch barrel. I was wondering if anyone has tried the 480 roger using a 325 gr. bullet on black bear. Is it enough for a good clean kill?

Thanks,

rudy-hunter

I have a SRH 480 and if a well placed shot wont stop what your after
get a rifle that will. I use Hornadys 325gr. ammo right now and it will
go through a 6x6 post. For whitetail should be no problem.
Alot of others that have the 480 use a little heavier load and I
believe they have very good results also.
If the 325gr  wont stop it get a rifle.

I would not hesitate to shoot blac bear with a .44 mag. Most guy who hunt them with dogs use the .357. Brown bears are another story, I would use nothing less than a .550 for them.
