22 benchrest

May be a dumb question:  Is a 22 benchrest just a 22LR barrel, or is this a special ammunition?

If you are talking about the 22 BR - there is no similarity between the 2 besides the base caliber. 22 BR cartridge is based on Remington's line of BR rounds (22 BR, 6 BR, 6.5 BR, 7 BR, 30 BR). All are center-fire, about 1 1 1/2 inches long, .308 case head diameter. Now, there is also a shooting sport called 22 Benchrest (BR ?) This is a paper-punching competition fired primarily at 50 yards (I think), fired from the bench and smallest group wins. This is fired with 22 LR ammo
