What is your prefered target practice bullet (brand/grain)?

I use full house 230 jhp factory and reloads for practice. This is my go to gun, and I practice when ever I can, use 10 clips per session.

In the past I have shot my carry loads most of the time but from now on I'm going to do the samething i do with my 44 mags. I shoot leadcast to practice/plink so i plan on shooting leadcast RN then after I'm done practicing I will shoot a few mags of my JHP carry rounds just to keep the edge on the feel of the full power loads. But I'm sure yet if the gun will function with the recoil spring for the hardball/jhp reloads with the leadcast? I'm new to tuning the 45's so its going to be a learning process too for me to get it right so i'm not sure if one recoil spring can do it all the 18# spring is a little on the stiff side but it handles hardball great.

If you plan to shoot a lot, use cast bullets because they wear the barrel less. You can get 230 grain cast bullets.

Your right i have been leaning towards shooting more 230RN cast bullets. But i just picked up some more wolf hardball its awesome to shoot and not have to reload. You can find the wolf cheap on sale at times too. I just had a LEE PRO 1000 setup for 45acp given to me and i never realized how fast this setup was, with every movement of the lever a finished round pops out. This is my setup for reloading the 230gr lead cast 45 RN bullets.

I have tried several brands of bullets in my 45acp, but keep coming back to the Penn Bullets. http://www.pennbullets.com. I did find another "cheap" source online at http://northeastbullet.com. Although I haven't tried their bullets, they claim they are hard (19br).

Regarding bullet type: I have become a fan of the flat nose round point design. It feeds reliably and has proven to be accurate. I load near max charge for these bullets. They are very controlable and help me avoid changing the recoil spring.

My recent powder of choice is Hodgdon Titegroup. It goes a long way compared to other powders.

I shoot tons of 45acp( target, and combat compatition). My favorite load is 230 gr cast RN( lee 6 cavity micro groove mold) with 4 gr of bullseye.
Very accurate out of both my 1911's, and recoil is very manageable.

I've been using Rainier 200g flat points and 4.5g of W231 for a target load. Very accurate out of my Kimber and Springfield GI. In fact they are my mostest favoritest load ever. Not as rough on the gun or me as factory ball and on a good day I can shoot ragged holes all day long. I really need to get a progressive loader and crank these suckers out cause it don't take long to shoot up a couple hundred rounds-

I use soft cast 185gr SWC over just enough Bullseye to cycle on old Thompson Auto Ordance 1911. I have shot thousands of these without any leading or even signs of wear (since 79) Even with the tiny combat sights this load will one hole them at 15 feet! Targets don't stand a chance.
