"sticky boly syndrome" fixed??
« on: August 08, 2005, 07:01:54 PM »
Hey there guys

In order to solve the sticky bolt syndrome on my M48 I cut the firing pin spring about 3/8" short.  Bolt opening effort eased up quite a bit.  No missfires so far with the turk and the yugo ammo.

I was wondering if this would cause any igniting problems?  Would the primer igniting rate be altered now that the pin doesn't hit as hard??  What about  bullt velocities??  If so I better get a new spring   .

Any response is greatly appreciated

THX

The milsurp springs are made very stiff to allow sure fire ignition of so called "hard" military primers. If all you have done is shorten the springs you can easily reverse the modification if you start having failure to fires by installing a new spring. They are about $7 or $8.
You took the smart way to do it.Good going.

I took a Mosin M38 to the range the other day, the bolt was horrible it just would work! Someone could have got a great deal on a M38 that day for pennies on the dollar.
I love shotguns! :cb2:

If you are using the same ammo as before, and it is still going bang, velocity should be the same.
