WHO WANTS TO RECHAMBER TO 445sm?(get in now)
« on: August 09, 2005, 12:55:45 AM »
IF I GET ENOUGH INTEREST I WILL BUY A REAMER :D

the cost will be $15.00 for the rechamber of one barrel.the only other cost would be the shipping cost to the next guy on the list.leftoverdj did the same thing some time ago with the 357mag to 357max rechamber and that went very good for him.

i will do this if its (OK WITH GRAYBEARD)

all that will be needed is a 44mag barrel and a T handle and some cutting oil.this can be done right a home without the help of a gun smith.a no brainer

who wants in?

I'm in!!

Talked to Jennifer yesterday and I'm on the list for one of the next set of 44 mag barrels. She says 3-4 months but we all know that is subject to change at any minute without notice. So.......put me on the reamer list.

i just got off the phone with Pacific Tool and Gauge and their cost on a reamer for the 445 super mag is $147.00.from what i have heard this company is A-1 but i dont know that for a fact.Pacific Tool and Gauge supplies reamers to Elk Ridge where they can be rented .the person i talked to at Pacific Tool said their reamers should be good for about 20-25 rechamber jobs if a good cutting oil is used and care is taken with the reamer when packaged back up and not dropped on the floor and such.

i would like to see interest from about 10 people  in the rechamber before i go and buy a reamer.if we get 10 the price per rechamber wont be that much.

lets wait and see what kind of interest there is in this rechamber before i go and order a reamer . i would hate to tie that much money in a tool for just a few rechamber jobs.the rental fee from Elk Ridge is $36.00 for the reamer.

it looks like we have about 7 people so far and thats not to bad

the T handle needed for this job is just a T handle that is used for tapping a hole with threads from a tapp and dye set.if you dont have one a cheap one can be bought for around 5 bucks.

I see no disadvantages to this re-chamber.

all that want to rechamber should kepp this in mind.with the 445sm there is no factory ammo out there for this round.also the price of the brass is more than the 44mag brass.the price of the 445sm brass is around $31.00 for 100.star line is the only one that produces this brass.

the good thing about this rechamber is the 445sm reamer will clean up the factory chamber with a top notch chamber and the accuracy should be better than the factory 44mag barrels.there will be more hitting power too.this will make a very good deer round for those of you that choose to hunt with a straght walled case.in my case the 14 inch 44mag contender barrel will become a heavy hitter with lots of hitting power and a very sharp recoil  to the hands and wrist  cant wait to see the look on the guys faces at the range when i touch this thing off.it wont be like touching off the mighty 45-70  in the contender but it will be close

thanks for the info on the ammo guys

for those of you that want in here is the deal :D
i will order the reamer next week and we then have a 3 week wait till the reamer gets to me.i would like to have all the people renting the reamer to send me $15.00 each for the use of the reamer.PM me and i will shoot you my address.i will make up a list of names of those wanting to use the reamer.after i am done i will sent the reamer to the first guy on the list.once he is done he will then sent it to the next guy on the list and then when he is done with it he will send it on again.this will go on untill all have used the reamer.make sure special care is used with the reamer so it isnt dropped on the floor and damaged.make sure cutting oil is used and be sure the reamer is packaged up good for shipment to the next guy.

this is the list so far but it could change if someone wants out or doesnt pay in advance.i dont want to eat alot of the cost of the reamer.if we get 10 guys the reamer will pay for it self and for $15.00 each its a good deal.PM me for my address,we have alittle over 3 weeks to get her done

thanks,
jeff

The idea sounds ok. Dave Kiff will make the reamer to spec. I have seen
H&R chambers 0.003" oversize. With a spec reamer this would leave a
step in the chamber. He will supply a floating pilot any size you want.

Barrel bore variation in 44Mag from what I have heard here go from anywhere 0.429 to 0.433 live pilots are interchangeable. They cost about 10 bucks. A smith will measure the barrel and get the right pilot usually 0.0001" less than bore.

You guys be well advised to make a few chamber casts and get a reamer a bit bigger to clean up the whole chamber.

Besides what the heck is wrong with a 44 mag. And 44Russ or 44 Sp or 44Mag wont shoot that well in a longer chamber and foul and lead up like crazy. I say leave well enough alone.

But then what the Australian say. What do we know about beer.

Sounds real close to "doing business" when you're renting a reamer for a set fee. Now if it costs say $150 and you lined up 10 folks and split it evenly and all paid $15 that wouldn't be "doing business" but just splitting the costs. But at $15 each if you get say 20 or 30 folks in line you've just pulled a neat profit.

Dunno. I guess we'll allow it. I said nothing on leftover's deal but as far as I knew there was no charge there other than mailing it on. However since I didn't get involved there might have been a charge.

I don't think it sounds like "doing business." If ten people are all that get involved wouldn't we just be splitting the cost of the reamer? And if more than ten people get invovled the price would be lowered. right?

im not in this to make money.all i want is a cheap rechamber to 445sm.as far as im concerned if we get 10 guys in on the deal the reamer will be paid for and the rechamber will cost us $15.00 each pluss shipping to the next guy.if we get 15 guys in on the deal the reamer cost for each of us will be $10.00 each plus shipping to the next guy.

:D i want your blessing on this Graybeard.if you dont like this we can end it right now.any money on its way to me will be sent back to the sender. :D

a guy can rent a reamer for $36.00 from Elk Ridge.you dont have to trust anyone except the company you are dealing with too.this might be the way to go with alot less hassels.i am willing to do my part on the deal but i cant talk for the others in on the deal.i would hope they would do their part and send the reamer on to the next guy.

Fred also brought up a good point.i sure dont want a ridged chamber in the guys 44 barrels.if the chamber didnt turn out good for them i dont want them feeling im the cause of a bad chamber.i rechambered a new unfired TC 357mag barrel to 357max and it turned out premo.im doing a TC 44mag barrel this time.some of the NEFs chambers arnt up to snuff so some thought should be given about this rechamber.i would get with Fred and ask some questions about this before doing the rechamber.

any input from anyone is wecome please and thankyou

A mans word is a mans word & thats good enough for me untill he proves otherwise. I will do my part to send it on. If there is a ridge in a chamber its buyer bewaire I would not hold it against anyone it is my choice to do it this way I could get it measred & rent on but there is no family feeling in that & I feel we are that

i have been thinking about this some more.say if we get 10 guys to do this rechamber and we all pay $15.00 each for use of the reamer.once we are all done with it the last guy can send it to GRAYBEARD himself for him to do with it what he wants.if he wants to rent it out he can or he can sell it to a gun smith.his choice  any money he can get out of it he can use for his forums or whatever.

what you all think about that?
