Modified Anschutz 54 question.
« on: August 10, 2005, 04:37:05 AM »
I just bought an Anschtz 54 Silhouette rifle from a guy yesterday.  My question is it has been modified, but I'm unsure of the reason that this modification has been done.  The barrel was shortened about 8-10", and a tube was install in place of it, and an adjustable weight was added to the end of the tub.
What would be the advantage of this modification?  The seller said it had been modded already when he bought it, so he didn't know why it was done either.
  Any help is appreciated.

'Bloop tubes' are common. (That's what you're describing.)

Are you certain that it's a 'modification'? Anschütz did sell silhouette rifles made that way. They were originally (AFAIK) running target bbls. There were at least 3 factory tube lengths. The one that I owned had a bbl about 19.5" long without the tube.

The weights allow the shooter to add or subtract weight, vary the balance... and they act as tuners. (The only real difference between those weights and the tuners seen on so many stool-shooter rigs is that the weights aren't on a calibrated thread system.)

I'm not 100% that this was a modification, the seller who sold me the rifle said that it was, however he was not the original owner.  It does look professionally done, so it could have been factory I guess if Anschutz was making them.

Is the barrel marked "EDS"? If it is, then it's 100% Anschutz, if not, it still may be...that is a marking I have seen on a factory 54 MS with a bloop tube. That was a 54 Metalic Silhouette "MS" single shot with the bloop tube set up and the barrel was marked "EDS". FWIW..
