Mosinized Again
« on: August 10, 2005, 07:12:09 PM »
I've owned in the past couple years a Hungarian M-44 (53) & a Russian M-38 (44). Both shot well, I still hear the 12 year old boy turning to his dad and saying "Its crazy that he (me with the M-44) was getting groups (about 2" at 100 yards) like that with that old gun! The father and son had matching Browning A-bolts in .300 Win. Mag. & .270 Win respectively (with expensive scopes) and shooting bigger groups than I :) .  That being said a fit (okay 2) of tradeitis and I was without MNs.... until Tuesday a friend who has a FFL (he used to have a gun shop but now just hits the gun shows) shows me a 1942 M 91-30 Itzy. It looks like it went through the Battle of Stalingrad. The stock is dinged and nicked, the barrel & action is rough with 50% blue and some blood pitting around the muzzle.... It talked to me, the bore is rough but there is defined rifling there and the price was err... right, $69 bucks. I spent the better part of 3 hours cleaning & de-cosmolining. I can't wait to wring it out with some Hungarian Yellow Tip. Now I have a weapon that stood a good chance of being at that famous siege(yeah I like Enemy at the Gates  8) ).

Glad to hear you are back in bisness again with another Nagant. In a way I am kinda glad they don't show up a lot around where I live, or else I would just stock pile them. Probably my favorite Mil. Surplus rifle I have is my Finn M39-what a shooter. You got to love these guns.

Thats awesome sounds like you have one with some history miles on it too.  Congrats I walked around a gun show once and passed by a russian one 3 times it was the only one there and I guess no one wanted it so since i had a few finn's i added the russian one just to have one.
