Handi Rifle Options
« on: August 11, 2005, 05:57:15 AM »
I was looking to buy a new target/groundhog gun and was initially looking at a savage 12 or a T/C encore.  After seeing how inexpensive the H&R rifles are I started to consider them also.  First I was wondering how the accuracy of the handi-rifle or the ultra compares to the savage and encore.  Second I was looking for a heavy barrel in 22-250 or 204 ruger.  It didn't seem to me that the H&R website had all the models available listed since I found many more on the walmart website.  I was wondering if H&R makes a rifle with a laminate stock and heavy barrel in the .204 or 22-250?  If not is there somewhere that I can buy a laminate stock for it?  I was also wondering what the difference is between the handi rifle and the ultra and which you would recommend for my uses.  Thanks for your help.

H&R doesn't make either caliber with a laminated stock, the .204 comes with either a 22" bull barrel and wood stock or a 24" fluted heavy barrel and a Choate Machine skeleton stock. Same for the .22-250 with the addition of the stainless model with synthetic stock. An option would be to buy the rifle you want and then get a stock set here or trade with someone or just order the stock set from H&R. The .223 is available in 24" bull barrel with cinnamon laminated stock in the Ultra Varmint which is the difference between Ultra and Handi, nicer stock, nicer finish and longer barrels.
