Just ordered a 460 S&W SS 15" barrel from Fox Ridge Outfitters  for my Encore. Can't wait to get it and see how it compares to my 45-70 and 7mm-08. :-D

Does T/C use the gain twist rifling like S&W does in the 460?

but I'm observing the enthusiasm about this new round while also constantly hearing all of the talk about how "nasty" the 454 Casull is.

Just interesting, That's all...

If you can shoot the big stuff out of Contenders and Encores, I think the 454, 460, 480 and the 500S&W aren't as bad(out of revolvers). A guy at the sportsman club I'm president of had all of them at the range friday and I shot a box of factory 500 and two boxes of factory 460 so he could down load the brass to his liking. The weight of the guns plus 3x12 Burris's on each one made them tame even with the heavy factory loads. The 460 ammo was xtremly accurate. The 480 actually had more recoil only because it didn't have a scope on it. The 500 Smith was a blast to shoot.I don't even want to think how much $$$$ I burnt up for him friday morning. My 375JDJ, 45/70 and the 450Marlin I had at the range hurt him more than the his revolers.

I already shoot a 15" ported 45-70 Contender and a 15" 7MM-08 Encore, the 08 is definitely more "snappy", but very accurate. When I scoped it, 2 of the shots were touching. Will be fun to see how the recoil and accuracy of the 460 is. Just wish I were 34 and no arthritis in wrist instead of 64. But I won't quit shooting the big boys until my last breath( or I hit myself in the head)

Actually I've never found the 44 magnum to be all that bad out of the Contender (which is all I have - no Encore). Of course, I always have the added weight of the scope base, scope, and rings to tame down the recoil.  I really don't shoot my Contender with open sights. I save that for the revolvers. It's just personal philosophy thing that's all.

So maybe it's true that a Contender is not as good handling recoil as a FA or Bisley revolver but it doesn't bother me - especially with the added hardware sitting on top.

I am interested in the 460 barrel also...This is a round that I want to shoot in the future...I will either buy a S&W 460WVR revolver, a BFR460 or an Encore...Only time will tell what I end up doing...
