Frog hunting with a .22lr revolver, how will the super colibri be if shots are kept around 10yds? have not went froging in 25 years, used a bb gun when I was a little kid, but if you did not hit them in the arch of there back they often got away. wanting a mess of frog legs but do not want to just feed the turtles.

Try CB longs or CB shorts. I shoot black birds with them all the time, very quit.  :D

I use 50 - 80 pound pull scoped crossbow pistols with special frog gig arrows.  Deadly out to 15 yards and once hit they don't get away.  If I can't use the crossbow pistols I use one of my pellet rifles with wad cutter pellets.  Anchors them on the spot.  Lawdog

I've used anything from pellet guns, .22's, bows, to blowguns on them, but I still think the easiest way, and safest is to just get  a 10 or 12 foot gig, and gig them...get a whole mess in a short time, plus you don't alert the other frogs in the area.

I'm pretty sure that here in Illinois it's not legal to shoot them with a firearm? Gigs are the only way I've ever taken them. Never lost one to a turtle yet, with a gig. When and if you get some, don't forget to take the strip of meat going up the back, it will increase the amount of meat you harvest.

Another one that my dad and I have used is to take a medium sized treble hook, and then gently put it under their jaw, then a slight jerk upwards, and you have your frog.  If you're using a gig, do it at night, their eyes give off a slight glow when the light hits them.  You can sneak up really close as long as you keep the light between you and the frog, and try walk softly...they can feel the ground vibrate.

treble hook on a pole is a great way to catch frogs. Now and then there will be one back under something where the methoid just won't work, but most times it does.

If ya don't feel like skinnin those frogs when ya get done huntin em, all they have is a little hole under their chin, so they will keep in a wet tow sack for along time. If ya wanna let em go, they will make it just fine as well.

Hello from Georgia,
   We have never shot frogs at all. The most efficient way to collect frogs is with a gig. I used to use a regular spear gig but now use a "spring steel loaded grabber gig"?" . These are now being sold by Bass Pro Shop. Mine is mounted on the screw end of a paint roller which I screw onto a 12' paint pole. Something else that we have used is the stick used for measuring the depth of gas in an underground storage tank with a traditional gig. Just some ideas.

We always used the 12 gauge, but then again, I dont remember eating many frog legs   :-D

Never shot frogs before. Always tied a hula-popper on the end of a crappie-pole and hooked 'em.
