Hornady 75gr. in the .25-06.
« on: August 12, 2005, 04:09:28 PM »
I'm getting ready to start my load development work on my new Remington 700BDL in .25-06.  I've got 7 or 8 loads made up, mostly with  100gr. and up bullets.  I'm going to pick up some more bullets tomorrow and was considering the Hornady 75gr. as I'm short on the lighter bullets.
Has anyone used this weight in their .25-06, and has it proven accurate?  Thanks and best wishes.

They will shoot good, I shot them in my cheap h&r ultra 25-06 , and they grouped better than anything else, I have tried different powders also. IMR 4064 was best for me slower burn rate powders groups opened up a little but still shot real good. My gun will group 100's in 1.5" to 2" but the little 75's shoot about in the same hole my barrel is also a 1in10" twist so don't see why they wouldn't group good in yours.

I use 58.0 gr. of H4350 behind a Hornady 75 gr. V-Max for 3,683 fps. out of my .25-06’s>  Very accurate and VERY EXPLOSIVE on small varmints.  Ruins a Coyote’s pelt under 250 yards.  While not as accurate as 100 - 115 gr. bullets they are good for practice.  Lawdog

I use the Hornady 75g V-MAX over H4895 in my .257 Roberts.  The result is 3609fps and excellent accuracy.  (Clay pigeons at 300 yards are in big trouble, as are prairie dogs.)

Thanks guys,  I should have mentioned the bullets are indeed VMAXs.  I have all the powders on hand that you mentioned so I'll run downstairs and make up 20 or so rounds.  Best wishes.
