Ruger SSS 4 5/8" stainless, why only 1020 made?
« on: August 12, 2005, 04:36:37 PM »
When I first looked into getting a Super Single Six I fell in love with the 4 5/8" version but wanted one in stainless.  The guy at the gun store said they didn't make it and I took the blued version home.  I love the gun but have always wanted the stainless.  So it surprised me when I found out that Ruger did make it but only 2 lots of 500 guns each and about 20 two hundred year anniv. models.

Why is this not a standard item on their production list?  Are they ever going to make more?  The ones they made already were given to lipseys, will they be getting more?  And will they be regular price or collector price?

I bought one about a year ago, and I just love it.

I would suggest seeing if your local dealer can get one from Lipsey's, or else check the auction sites. I see them NIB pretty regularly on GunBroker.com and/or GunsAmerica.com.

You should be able to find one without too much trouble.

Good luck!

I have been trying to find one but can't anywhere.  Lipseys has none on the website and 2 local dealers tell me I'm Sh** out of Luck.

Any other help would be great.  Thanks.

Hello!  I'd suggest you keep checking local gun shops, gun shows and these online auction sites:

http://www.gunsamerica.com/
http://www.auctionarms.com/
I lucked out, the end of June I found one at Cabela's.  I gave $329 for it NIB.  They had 2 at the time, but the last time I was there, the other one was gone.  Good luck with your search! :D

Careful if you get the Single Six with a 4 5/8inch barrel.  They feel real nice in the hand and might convince you to get more short barreled Rugers.

I love mine although the cylinder gap might be a bit much. I need to measure it and find out the factory specs...

BTW, I have the stainless version from Lipseys. Does Ruger do warranty work or Lipseys?

I'd bet that Lipsey's will tell you to send it Ruger if you need warranty work done.  I think Lipsey's is just a distributor.  You'd have to contact them to be sure though.

the Lipsey's guns were what's come to be known as distributor editions.  They're uncataloged models made by Ruger per a contract with a specific distributor.  It will usually be for a set number of models to be made and that distributor (or distributor group as with TALO editions) is the exclusive distributor of them.  Some they make large runs, other smaller ones.
These 4 5/8" SSS in stainless are still found occasionally.  Just gotta keep your eyes open.
