Broke Another Bow Saw
« on: August 15, 2005, 09:33:59 AM »
Broke my second bow saw this summer (cutting 3" dried logs) and am about fed up.  I don't want to spend a pile of money on something just to cut firewood but maybe that's what I'm up against.

Problem is manufactures now are putting a cheap rivet in the front hole for the blade hold and it doesn't hold up.

What are you guys using or any ideas for a good saw.  Doesn't need to be a collapsible one or anything like that, just a good saw that will last without breaking the bank.

I had a really cheap saw where the rivet fell out when I was changing blades. I took a short No 10 machine screw and a wing nut and replaced the rivet. Now I can take it out to change the blades. Also, you can drill out the end of the saw frame to accept a bolt just smaller than the holes in the sawblade. This way the bolt doesn't bend or break as easily.

Been using one for 2 years here in AK.  No problems to date and the bone blade makes really quick cuts in bone.

I have one of those break down sven saws, they arent all too expensive, and I've been using the one I have now for about 7 years... changes the blade on it once to cut better... but thats it.
