HW77 and HW 97
« on: August 15, 2005, 12:55:55 PM »
What is the difference between the 77 and 97?  I know the 77 only comes in .177 and is a couple inches shorter.  Is it the same gun internally?
Thanks!

Actually both rifles come in .177, .20, .22 & .25 calibers.  Go to http://www.weihrauch-sport.de/englisch/e_startseite/e_index.htm then click on the "Products" link then on "Long Range Air Rifles" link and go to HW97K and click on the "Technicial Details" link below to see the technical details on the HW98, HW97K, HW77 and the  HW77K.  I have the HW97K in .22 caliber and it's very accurate and quite powdeful.  I have no idea if their is any difference in the internal workings between the 77 & 97.  Maybe "dave" has more information on Weihrauch air rifles.  Lawdog

New ones are basically the same gun with the same internals.  Main differences are the stock and that the HW77 comes with open sights.

The diameter of the barrel and lever seems thicker to me on the 97. The front sight assembly on the 77 is pretty much integral to the muzzle. Thus, you cannot remove it to install a clean muzzle-break as on the 97. Besides the 97's stock having a higher comb, it also has a more vertical, and thicker, pistol grip. This makes for less reach to the trigger, and it is more comfortable for me than the 77. The latter is the same in that area of the stock as every other R-series HW import.

Thank you for the info, I was trying to iron out some last minute details on what gun to order...bought the Goldfinger .177.  Now, like every one else says, I'm just waiting on the big brown truck  :D
