New REDFIELD Scopes
« on: August 16, 2005, 03:43:42 PM »
I remember back in the day....about 30 years ago or so (when I was only about 5 years old :) ), if you were the man, then there were only two scopes that would be mounted on your rifle - either a Leupold or a Redfield.  During the 80's, Leupold started to soar in sales while Redfield started to take a dive. By the time the late 90's came around, Redfield was just a name of the past.

Today it seems that Meade Corporation, the owner of Redfield, is staging a big comeback.  Meade is supposedly one of the finest optical companies in the world, making optics and equipment for, I think, NASA, etc.  Meade also apparently owns Simmons (which I personally would not mount on even a toy gun) and will use this new internal system similar to the Redfield.  Apparently the only difference with the Redfield will be the better optics.

I have read a few articles and ads here and there in the gun and hunting magazines, and it appears that the new Redfields are going to be quite expensive - say around the price of a Leupold VX-III or maybe more.

I am curious about the new Redfields.  Have they even hit the market yet?  Are any of our sponsors going to sell them?

If they were responsible for the Hubble Space Telescope mess I would worry!   :-D

But seriously, I own a couple of the Colorado Redfields and they are as good as any Leupold I have.  In fact the 3x9 Illuminator is quite a bit better.  I too would be interested to hear if Meade intends to restore Redfield to the top.
