Old S&W pistol
« on: August 17, 2005, 06:28:58 AM »
My mom has an OLD S&W .32cal pistol and I was wondering what it might be worth and a gunsmith who can clean & tighten it up.

Printed on the barrel rib: Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass.pat Apr.3.55 July5.59 Nov.21.65  serial # appears to be 72365

Some pitting in the barrel but I think it could be cleaned back up.

a hand ejector - if the cylinder drops out the side - mine are in 32 S&W long.

Or is it a break top?  With a rear grip safety (lemon squeezer)?  32 S&W caliber or the long?

Need a little more information.  What condition?  Nickled or blued?  Length of the barrel?  Grips - black bakelite or wood?

You've got a little gem there.

It is grey metal so Im not sure if all the bluing is gone or if it is an old nickel  process.  Only a couple tiny specks of rust so Im going to guess nickel.  There is some crud/corrosion in the barrel and it looks pitted but I have not cleaned it, just put some oil on it.  It might polish up nice as the rifling looks ok.

IT is the break top where the barrel swings up to take the cylinder out.  Not sure of the caliber as it is not marked anywhere on the gun.  Dark wood grips in good shape.  No safety.  Im thinking it was made in the 1800's some time based on the dates stamped on the barrel rib.

The release is on the bottom front of the cylinder housing. It is one piece release that goes across the front which you can access from either side.
The barrel and front of cylinder housing flip up and you pull the cylinder straight out.

It has a small rounded "birds head" type grip.  the only markings are the patent dates on the barrel rib and the serial # on the bottom of the grip.
