'Range slobs' ruin great volunteer effort

Editor:

For the last three or four months, a couple of us have taken on the responsibility of cleaning up the make-shift firing range on Powerline Road. Your newspaper was even kind enough to do an article on our volunteer project.

We would go out daily and pick up the trash, expended shells, food wrappers and only God knows what. We spent many hours of educating folks about picking up after themselves, not to shoot at glass bottles and please not to shoot their shotguns at the plywood we provided as a backstop for the rifles and pistols. We provided a trash can for the convenience of shooters and emptied it daily. The bags of trash were then hauled off to the city dump when we had acquired a truck load.

To the 95 out of 100 shooters who helped keep the place clean, I thank you and applaud your efforts. This letter is directed to the four or five "range slobs" who seem not to have been taught any sort of manners whatsoever in their lifetime.

After sanding and painting a new trash can (red, white and blue with two National flags affixed) some brain-dead moron felt the need to blast away at it.

I have been buying the plywood backstops out of my own pocket. I wrote across the top in bold letters, "please, no shotguns." The result was that some rocket scientist blasted the wood right off the stands at close range with his shotgun, then was very careful to leave his empty shells in a pile nearby. To these type individuals, I say, "you have worn out your welcome at the range and don't come back."

My partner and I have decided to give up cleaning the area because of inconsiderate people like you who are destroying it for all the really good people who go out there. Your lack of responsibility and inconsiderate actions lead me to believe you have not got the mental capacity to possess a firearm. People like you scare me to the point I don't want to be anywhere near you when you're running around loose.

At this point, all I can say to everyone else is thanks for your help and keep up your good habits.

*FW Note:

Something to think about on your next rip to the range, or next time you can't find a place to shoot...

They may talk of a "New Order" in the  world, but what they have in mind is only a revival of the oldest and worst tyranny.   No liberty, no religion, no hope.   It is an unholy alliance of power and pelf to dominate and to enslave the human race.

I belong to a local conservation club that has a pistol and rifle range. Whenever I visit these ranges, I spend half my time picking up all kinds of carelessly discarded debris left by those who obviously don't care about having a safe and legal place to enjoy shooting.

I am embarrassed by the proven fact that many men are indeed lazy slobs.
If at first you don't succeed, by all means try again. But if this doesn't work, give up, because there is no sense in making a darn fool of yourself.

Unfortunately you are correct...Although the slobs don't see themselves that way...They have the opinion that someone else will pick it up... :?

And that is why I dont allow any one to hunt on my peoperty that hasnt been invited to do so, I got tired of fixing fences gates and feeders, picking up trash, and yes having some cattle shot, so it is a well known issue around here dont even ask to hunt and you dont want to get caught traspassing here. :D    JIM
