Guys I appreciate the advice but I am putting a slight bell in the case mouth. That is definately not the problem. I am just going to seat and crimp in seperate steps using a roll crimp die.
Thanks
Erick
Hey Erick,
You may have your seat/crimp die not set up properly. First seat your bullet to the length you want. Then back off the the seating adjustment screw. Now back off the die all the way so you can run the cartridge into the die. Now lower, screw, the die back down on the cartridge till it stops. From this point on you will be setting the crimp action of the seat/crimp die. Do the adjustment a little at a time. At this point you must be very careful. Once you have the right crimp lock the die in place. Next screw the seating adjustment back down on the bullet and lock it in place.
I think you may have had the crimp adjusted so the shell was being crimped too soon as the bullet was being seated. I hope I have made this clear to you. It is an art to get a seat/crimp die adjusted just right. I do a lot of handgun, straight walled, cartridges and learned this the hard way.
