What've I got?
« on: August 19, 2005, 11:42:20 AM »
I just did a little tradin', and wound up with a T/C Muzzleloader but it doesn't say anywheres on it which model it is. It's a .45, and the serial # is 5 digits starting with a 7. How do you tell the difference between a Hawken, Seneca, or Cherokee? I know it's not a Renegade, I already have one of those.

Hawken is a little bigger overall than a Seneca or Cherokee, 28" barrel, 15/16" flat to flat.

Seneca/Cherokee barrrels are 13/16" flat to flat.

Hawken & Seneca have brass patchboexs, Cherokee does not.

Hawken patchbox is slightly larger than the Seneca patchbox.

Seneca brass butt plate come down then turns and runs up under the stock a few inches towards the triggers.

roundball just said it.

They don't make them small "very valued" Seneca or Cherokee's any more,,the barrel size is indication alone.(period)
Along side the Renegade the "Hawkin" is about the same size,,a big gun,,the seneca and cherokee are smaller, like a youth or ladies gun
i'm a realist. i've not seen it all, but man ,,I've Been Around the block once or twice

This is a little off subject but due to the knowledge that seems to be available; does anyone know when or what T/C Hawken was made with the triggerguard, forend, patchbox and thimbles made of Pewter or some other silver colored metal? I just found one for sale and since mine is all brass I was interested in getting it to go along with the brass one. The stamping on the barrel is somewhat different from my brass trimmed one also. Looks like different stamp shapes.

TC made a few 'runs' of a Hawken variant called the 'Cougar' and the 'Silver Elite', both of which had non-glare pewter looking stainless locks & furniture.  Cougar runs were made in 1988, and 1992, the Silver Elite in the late 90's.

The Cougar had a regular blued barrel, the Silver Elite had a stainless barrel.

Neither of them had patchboxes, although the Cougar had a stainless medallion inset into the right side of the stock where the patchbox normally is...Silver Elite had nothing there.

Thanks for the reply. This one has a blued barrel and it is the T/C barrel (not a replacement). There is a patchbox which matches the silver look hardware however.
