Need me some edjamakashun on IPSC drills
« on: August 19, 2005, 02:24:56 PM »
I read a really good article that mentioned a 2.5 second drill for IPSC shooting. I tried it and I like it because it's good practice. Can you share any particular favorite drills you have? Thanks.

The "El Presidente" and the Mozambique drills will certainly help with dexterity and gunhandling skills, those are hoary old drills I used a lot. Beyond that, practice, practice, practice, especially the reloading and presentation. I shot two matches a week, every week, for about 16 years, and that helped a lot, too, just getting used to the format and DOING it. Aside from that, volunteer at your club to help run matches, take the RO course, and watch experienced shooters very carefully. That will help, too. It really helps to have stiff competition, the work to beat them makes YOU better. I burned out, from that regimen, but had some mighty fine times, doing it.

Glen;
  X2 on the 16 years and the burn out.

Questor;
"Bill Drill"   Draw and fire 6 shots from 7 yards in the A zone in 2 seconds.  I've done it with a Smith 625 on numerous occasions.

I've found The "El pres" to be my fav drill it's versatile and forces trigger control (use steel no pasting). With a bill drill you tend to focus on quick splits and a fast draw..accuracy somtimes goes by the wayside. after all if you don't shoot Alpha's on a bill drill it shouldn't count right? check this out 1.73 sec. .899 draw , all alphas

Alphas only count on the El Pres too.

Try it w/ a rifle at 25 yds.
