info on mounted CAS

I was at the state fair this week.  There was a competition going on called cowboy mounted shooting.  They were running a pattern and popping balloons with blank black powder charges in a pattern from horseback trying to get the fastest time and missed balloons were a 5 second penalty.  These shots were usually less than 3 feet from the balloon but still impressive from a galloping horse.  Mostly, from the horse aspect, I'd be very interested in learning more about this sport.  I am always on the look out for new horse games as well as horse markets.  Is this in anyway associated with what y'all do (and to be honest, I have no idea what that is but would appreciate any info or direction).  thanks.

Chaplain-

Yep, many big, and some local, SASS/CAS matches include a mounted competition for the folks that like shooting from horseback.  If you go to sassnet.com, there are links to more information about mounted shooting.  There's folks on the sass wire forum that can tell you far more than I can.  SASS also offers a special Mounted Shooters Handbook to folks that are interested in the sport.  My little general purpose handbook doesn't say much about it, and it would take an ox to haul my tub of guts around a course. :)

Were you at the Missouri State Fair? There are a quite a few Cowboy
Action Shooting clubs around Missouri. But I don't think there are very
many that do any mounted shooting.

Yes it was the Missouri State Fair.  I have found quite a list on the CMSA web site but have not yet pulled out the map to see where in Missouri they are at.

If you are ever interested in Cowboy Action shooting there are several
clubs that shoot it around here. Higginsville, Odessa and Fayette are
several that are close to me. The next shoot at Fayette (Sept 3,4) is
a great shoot.
