need a good 686 scope mount
« on: August 20, 2005, 09:20:56 PM »
I need a good 686 scope mount. The one I have keeps working its way loose. I've used fingernail polish and locktight.
So does anyone know of a good mount for this?
What is the sense in preserving collectible items just so they can be auctioned off by uncaring heirs for their pecuniary value ? I am inclined to believe that vintage cars are to be driven, old wine is to be drank, and fine guns are to be shot.

Is it factory drilled and tapped?

Check out Weigand Scope Mounts...Here is a link to the page:

I have a Jack Weigand scope mount on my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and I love it...The thing is rock solid and worth every penny I spent.

I have a 629 a 460 Mag and a 500 Mag. I have on the 500 mag and 460 mag, the weaver K,L,N mount with Leupold rings. On the 460 I have a Bushnell 2X6X32 scope and on the 500 Mag, I have a Ultra dot red-dot sight.  I have a lot of rounds fired and my scope and red-dot never move. Good rings keeps the scope in place and I use blue lock tite on the mount screws. On the 629, I have the B-Square mount and Millet rings and a Millet red-dot sight. Sight has never moved or the mounts come loose. Again blue lock-tite is used on the mount screws.  :D

Since it's drilled and tapped you can buy a base from Weaver, Burris or Leupold in addition to the one mentioned. Just take off rear sight and screw either of them on.

I had a weaver base on it. It keeps working loose. I've used red lock tight, fingernail polish and it still gets loose a couple times a year. I've just about had it with scopes mounted to the thing. Unfortunately I have trouble seeing the targets. I need somthing that will not work itself loose.

I would not know what to tell you. If my 500 Mag and 460 Mag and 44 Mag hold with blue lock tite, and your 357 Mag does not, it baffles me.  :?
