A Harsh Reality Check
« on: August 22, 2005, 01:04:27 AM »
I had a reality check over the weekend when I went to Wal Mart to purchase a box of 22-250 Rem. for the new rifle barrel.

This was the very first box of factory ammo I've bought in over 10 years. .

Now I remember why I hand load.

1 Box (20) of Remington 55gr. Core lok 22-250 cost $13.66 after tax.

My goodness that’s highway robbery

Granted the last 3 boxes of factory ammo cost me little under $250

Come to Canada and buy ammo for a real shock. I don't remember when I bought the last box of factory ammo. But imported 6mm match bullets are 33 cents each and some powder is close to 40 bucks a pound with rax.

A liter of gasolene is 99 cents. We been had, the government fish and game dept is wondering why the big 45% reduction in hunting licenses.
A young fellow can hardly get into hunting with all the red tape involved just get a permit to buy a gun. No need for gun control the price of all the permits stops the sales.

Well cost is certainly one of the reasons I reload ( 36.00 for 20 rds for my 300 win mag). I also enjoy reloading and feel I have much better ammo.

Walmart hires them because they work cheap-Not because they're smart!  The head of my local Wally World sporting goods department is a friend of mine.  He doesn't even hunt-he got promoted(?)from paint.  If I'm in the store and someone has a question, guess who Jim calls.  I should be on retainer.
