2005 Montana archery antelope
« on: August 22, 2005, 04:46:30 PM »
Went out today to our place near Augusta today and took a very nice archery buck, the shot was 62 yards and I hit him in the lower back corner of the shoulder, the arrow penetrated the shoulder and went in far enough to pierce the heart. He loped about 50 feet and fell over backwards. The carbon arrow is still in one piece but the muzzy 100 gr is in pieces, the tip is blunted like a bullet and the blades broke.Really happy with this buck for our area,he is bigger than the buck i took last year with a rifle season tag!Whooooooah!!!The season has begun!!

we practice out to 70 yards here just for these little guys, they are VERY hard to get close to even with our decoys and cammo.I shoot the lightest carbon I can get and a 100 gr 3 blade broadhead, even at 62 yards it went through the lower shoulder blade and into the heart! The blade is in pieces but it did the job, these little heads fly just like a practice point I lve em.

Congratulations!  I'm hoping to go antelope hunting this year as well.  How do you set up for them?  Do you use a ground blind?  Any advice you could give would be great!

Nice 'lope NONYA.  We're in the same part of the world.

My brother-in-law is chasing a pope and young buck near Great Falls.  He won't shoot past 50 yards.  I'm gonna show him this one and poke some fun at him.

I sometimes use a blind but I prefer to use a decoy after I have located them. There are some great bucks near the Cascade area but the pressure is high and access during the early bow season is hard to find where there are ACTUALLY NICE BUCKS.Once the goats figure out the season is on they get smart real quik, even when a buck is all rutted up the does keep a look out and they dont stick around, taking off with the bucks in tow.
