Will this work .............or just plain silly
« on: August 23, 2005, 04:37:52 PM »
I have a good setup for the deer season and am ready to go. However I found a good "little" bow at a pawn shop and just had to byu it. I shoot a 31 inch draw on my hunting bow.....this little bow only goes to 27 inches.......................i have some cheap aluminum arrows I don't use anymore. The question is do you people think I could make a four inch loop and shoot it.............."just for fun"........"not hunting".............or would it turn my forearm into hamburger. Oh by the way my real bow is set at 70 lbs. This little one only goes up to 40Lbs,.

Thanks guys

I really have never gone the route you are suggesting, it could injure you.  The only wayto shorten a draw safely is an overdraw, a custom shelf that allows the arrow rest to be behind the bow hand.  I am not a big fan of those either.  Be careful, and think this one through... :D

I would sell that one before you hurt yourself.  I would think that when you release the string with that long string loop on it the loop would whip against your forearm with great speed.  This could really tear it up...At least that is my first inclination.  Find some kid that wants to get into archery and let him or her try it out...Sounds like you bought a childrens bow.

im with jeff g on this one.  a four inch loop can slap you silly, plus breakage etc.  i dont know for certain, but id also think with that long a loop you would tend to pull away from straight back as a short loop you only have enough leash to pivot.  if that long a loop ever broke or came undone from the string...you could take a chunk of skin off your face and we could hope it aint your eye as it whips through your release.
