Circle P on barrels?

I just got through looking on the FAQ page and didn't find an answer to my question.

I have 6 centerfire barrels, with 2 of them coming straight from the factory.  Five of the barrels, .22 Hornet, .243, .30-30, .357 and .45-70, say "Handi Rifle SB2" and under that, the caliber and a P with a circle around it.  The .223, that I bought as a new complete gun in 2003, doesn't say "SB2" and it doesn't have the P with a circle around it.

What's the significance of the P with a circle around it?

If you look closely, you can see the Circle P on both of these barrels.

well im not sure...But a +P is basicly a mag load for 45 colts...  MAYBE the circle P is a denotation of the high pressure barrles from 99 and higher..

Looks like a "proof mark" to me, indicating barrel was proof tested.  On all the NEF barrels I have including an older H&R Topper.

I think that symbol stands for "Pardner"

Well Tim, I didn’t talk to Jennifer, but I did find out what the circle P stands for.  

According to the unidentified source at NEF, it is found on the older barrels to indicate they have been proofed.  He said the roll stamp has been changed a couple of times and that circle P may not be on later barrels.

The .357 Mag barrel I have was fitted to my “NT” SB2 receiver/frame in early 2004 and it has the circle P.  The .223 barrel, bought new in Dec 2003 on that same “NT” receiver/frame, doesn’t have the circle P.

I guess it’s just a little bit of worthless information that could be called “trivia”, but at least there isn’t a question about what it stands for and no one will think it’s justification for +P loads!  :roll:

I had need to call NEF this afternoon before going to work...to check on the availability of some different barrels and new colors of laminated stocks...and a possible date that they will be going into production...and had the chance to speak with Gordon who is in charge of the Customer Service department..he's pretty knowledgable about our little Handi's...and since this thread was posted...I had wonderd about this circle P and also about the circle R and arrow inside the recievers...and so I asked him about both....According to him...both roll marks on all NEF barrels and receivers mean absolutly nothing they are not proof marks...and have no special meaning but is simply a part of their machining process ...and when the cutters for these are worn out...they are not replaced...which is why some NEF barrels have them...and others do not.....Now...whither this is somemore of 1 party not knowing what the other party knows ...I couldn't say...but...it is definatly different...Also...I found out...they are debating bring out a few new(old) colors of laminates...and have had limited runs of a few of them...so as what has been seen so-far...time will tell what other colors will be available.No info on when the stainless fluted 204 will start...but hopefully sometime soon...
