You only have a week to take part in Marylands Black Bear Hunting Permit Lottery. If you haven't applied yet, you have about seven days to participate for a chance to get a permit to hunt in the second Maryland Black Bear Hunt. If you have applied, pass this email on to a friend because if you dont win, he or she might and have you be a sub-permittee.
Two Hundred permits will be issued to sportsmen. Applicants, both residents and non-residents, have better than a one in twelve chance of winning one. If you don't have a place to hunt, DNR will work to partner interested landowners and hunters for private land hunting opportunities. Read about it online at
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/dnrnews/pressrelease2005/062105a.html and apply before the August 31st deadline.
Applications are now being accepted online at
http://blackbear.dnr.state.md.us/ through Aug. 31. Applications are also being accepted over the phone through Aug. 26, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1-888-579-6768.
The hunt will take place Oct. 24-29 and Dec. 5-10 in Garrett County and those areas west of Evitts Creek in Allegany County. DNR has established a harvest objective of 40-55 bears for the 2005 season. Once the harvest objective is reached, the hunting season will be closed.
