If you are going to use pellets 2 are needed. Loose powder 80 to 120 gr.  Just depends on what you want to do.  :D

I'm surprised it even shot with one, I use 2 or 3 when I hunt with 295 Grain Powerbelts...

The point of impact will change a lot, double the load od your 50 grain's. One pellet will not "in my opinion" have enough killing power for deer or bear or any other big game.

pa I let my daughter shot with one pellet a lot, she is 9 years old.

Your POI will change a lot when you go to 2 pellets.

My encore shoots great with 2 or 3 pellets but there is a great deal of difference in POI even between 2 and 3 pellets.

Mine shoots real good with the 777 ffg too but I hate dealing with that nasty crud ring.

I hope you enjoy shooting your encore as much as I have enjoyed shooting mine.

What kind of pellets??  Pyrodex or 777? Ive never heard of any one using one pellet. that can't have much energy for killing anything further than 10 yards.  I may try it and see what kind of velocity it puts out just for curiosity sake, but I would say that 100 gr should be a minimum for big game.

I tried 777 pellets and powerbelts.  there was no crud ring or even much residue at all.  Patches came out white by the third patch.  What did you use for lube?

Keith, take a look up your barrel with a light, I bet you have some deposits built up just before the rifling.  I do every time I shoot mine.

I shot my Encore this morning a total of 23 times.  About half were with two pellets of 777 and 250 grain Shockwaves to get her dialed in.  I also used a spit patch followed by a dry patch between every shot.  Once sighted in I shot two groups with 2 50 grain pellets that flew into 1.25 and 1.50"s respectively.  The next two groups were with 3 50 grain pellets of 777 and they both flew into 1.50"s but impacted almost 6 full inches higher than the two pellets groups.  I really didn't feel like the recoil with 3 pellets was terribly more than with two and certainly not intolerable.  I will say it kicks considerably less than my 12 gauge turkey barrel!  I found this combination to shoot above my expectations and the clean up was a snap.  3 patches soaked in T/C's Bore cleaner and some Bore Butter and I put her to bed.

So what did you decide on for your hunting load? :D

Redhawk,
I edited my previous post as I stated that the load was not tolerable, when I meant to say it was not intolerable.  I am one of those guys that figures if a little is good a lot has to be better!  I am going to hunt with the "3 pellet" load with the 250 Shockwaves this year.  I had actually never even tried the magnum powder charge in my Encore but figured this morning that I would.  Maybe all the hype about the recoil had me expecting more but it really wasn't that bad?  The Limbsaver pad is great and other than a little more muzzle flip I found it downright enjoyable.  I have access to some pretty big agricultural properties down here in Florida so every little bit of velocity I can get might help.  I am going to try to chrono some loads later next week if I can to see exactly what the gain is.
