Barrel Trivia
« on: August 26, 2005, 01:42:35 PM »
Found me another used SB2 30-30. (I have no idea why I thought I needed another one.) Blued action, and usual 22" barrel with open sights. Mfg stamp NEF, serial number prefix is ND. Obviously too old for high pressure rounds. But it has the pre-micro-groove rifling. I pushed a 31 cal Hornady ball down the bore and it came out a perfect 308. Now, I'm trying to decide if I need this barrel in 30-30 for cast bullets, or in 30-40, for cast bullets. Since I have an old model 158 30-30, this might have to go the 30-40 route. So, for you guys thinking about an investment in a 30-40, but are put off by the commonly found over-sized 30 cal barrels, look into one of the older barrels. Especially if you are thinking cast.
