I have a sporterized 1903 springfield rifle that I just purchased a Mueller 4x16x50 scope for. This rifle has an old Bushnell scope on it, probaby one made back in the sixties. It has Weaver one inch mounts on it. The Mueller scope arrived today, and after comparing them, I realized the Mueller doesn't have enough one inch tube to fit. It appears the scope bases are about a half inch too far apart. The front base is mounted directly on the receiver and the rear is dovetailed in. Aside from taking this to a gunsmith to have the front base moved back, does anyone have any suggestions? If I have to have the front base moved, how much am I looking at having to spend? Thanks.
