The weight you need at the end of a drowner, depends on the type of bottom you have.
A hard bottom requires much more weight, than a mucky or muddy bottom.I have had beaver swim 100 feet along the bottom, after breaking the wooden top stake, this beaver pulled along a full cement block, which weighed well over 50 pounds. This was on a hard bottom, the same weight was more than enough ,when used on muddy bottoms.
The last 7 years,I have not had to worry about beaver drowning weights.I have switched  gone to 330s,I sure don't miss hauling or fooling around with drowning weights.

well my bro and like to use a couple different things. first we like to use 2 or 3 cement blocks tied together. the 3 block system holds very well here in Southern IL. we have really muddy creeks, and rivers and them blocks hit that mud and just sink making it really hard to remove. we have yet had a beaver move one.
we also use an old grain bag filled w/ gravel. we only use this when we know the beaver are not over 50 lbs.
and finally we use a long pole drilled into the bottom w/ a "x" welded on top. once you get that thing pushed into the bottom, it aint gonna come out very easy. its hard to tell ya the exact lenght cause i dont know what ur water depth is. but we have use 8' ones.
Some  people shouldn't be allowed to breed.
