I was thinking of making a change to-----

    Tom Olson's Trapping Supplies

I think using your own name is a good idea.  You put a personal touch to your business anyway so why not make it a personal business by using your own name.  I think trappers and most people are tired of dealing with faceless big corporations who wouldn't remember you if you called back 5 minutes later after placing a $10,000 order.  Ace

There is another Olson out east in this business, that is why I  am considering using my entire name.Olson is a bit more common last name than most.Especially in the Midwest.

How about "Old What-his-name's Trapping Stuff"?   :-D

Using your own name might be a good name unless you are wanted somewhere.

Tom Olson's Trapping Supplies is about as straight forward as it gets.

Maybe you could call it Tom "Bogmaster" Olson's Trapping Supply then everyone would recognize and remember it right away as well as putting a personal touch on your business. Ace

How about Olson's St. Croix Valley Trapshed or Trapping Supplies.
Kinda long but then identification and recall is what the name is for. The websites, e-mails phone # are all the same.

Guys, another reason I want to change, seems a quasi dealer ---and I use that term loosely--has named his something very similar>Though he is from another state, there is no way I want anyone even remotely thinking that we are one in the same.Bryce,I think you will see what I mean in Wisconsin, the sories others tell about him, should reinforce why I am doing what I am doing.
As far as I know,I am the only Tom Olson ,related to the Trapping world---think I am going to go with  it.

Nothing personalizes a business more than incorporating your own name and reputation into the business name. I think it would be a very good idea to move toward something with your name associated with it, especially if there is potentially some negative brand association with a similarly marketed name to your present business name out there now.
Depending upon how many market lines you presently sell along (vendors, customers, and of course local legal and utility relationships) there will be plenty of work involved in both changing your present business name as well as promoting it back through the ranks. But, stay focused on the long-term goal of doing so. Believe in why you are changing it to whatever you decide to change it to, then stick firmly by it as you fill out the paperwork changes and notify anyone and everyone you deal with. If you believe it is the right thing to do, eventually you will be there 100% as you wade through the transition stage to get it where you want it to be.
Good luck, too!

You could name it "TO's" trapping supplies.  :)  It would probably increase your Philidelphia sales, but probably hurt your San Francisco sales.

Terell Owens plays for the Philidelphia Eagles.  They call him TO.  Alot of controversy always follows him.  Before he played for the Eagles he played for San Francisco.  The coaching and most of the players were happy to see him go.  Alot of Philidelphia's fans beleive TO is a big reason the Eagles went to the Super Bowl last year.  When they lost TO was bad mouthing McNabb for the loss, however with all of the controversy the Eagle fans seem to love him and 49er fans fans seem to be glad he is gone.

Tom,
Just flipping through a couple of back issues of trapping mags, and noticed a very high percentage of the vendors are marketing under some form of their own personal name incorporated into the business line. Would solve your issue with the similar name vendor you are presently dealing with, anyway.
I still like the aspect of personalizing the business brand with some form of your own name. You hang your good reputation on your quality and your service, and everyone knows it as well as they know you. Why not bring the two together and sync things up for your business.

You cant even remember how to spell "remember" for crying out loud . :-D  :-D

Boggy , use your name . There are so many catchy trapping supply names out there you just dont really remember who ya dealt with . I personally remember a name when it comes to something like this .
