Hey, I just noticed a number (318) scribed on the latching lug of my Handi .243 barrel.  Does anybody know what this number represents?

It should be the same as the last 3 digits of the serial number.

If not the barrel was not fitted at the factory.

I've had barrels that were factory fitted that had no numers on them, some that had numbers scribed with a electric pencil and the latest ones are stamped with dies. I think it depends when the rifle/barrel left the factory.
