Guys, I need opinions.  I just bought my first encore frame.  I have several contender barrels.  I want to use the encore to deer hunt with this fall.  My shots will be between 50 and 200 yards.  What caliber would you sugest?

I've got a 25/06 that I've been shooting, and I've just purchased a custom barrel (I hope) 7-08 off of Ebay.  I'm going to give one of the two a try this year.

you will get about 1000 diffrent answers on this question.

you need to find out what your state will allow you to use very first.
we then need to know if you handload or not.
are you use to heavy recoil barrels?

RickyP, your right not enough information.  So here goes:

Va allows any cartridge above .22 cal
I do handload
I shoot a 30-30 contender well.
I have not shot big handcannons much, 44 mag revolver is about it.
I do own a lone eagle in 7-08.
Would like to use the same barrel to deer hunt and varmit hunt with, for my first barrel.

since you already hand load for the 7-08 and in VA you can use it to hunt with, I would get an encore barrel in this caliber.

You already have brass, bullets and dies for the 7-08 so you will save a lot of money off the bat.  you can use the 100 gr sierra HP Varminter bullets for your varmints and use  around 140 gr bullets for deer.
