Here's a couple of links where you can look up the Meridian Gold:

Just a FWIW, Magellan customer service is pretty poor. You might want to check this out before you purchase one of their units. MI VHNTR

I have one and just used it for a trip out West; Eau Claire, WI to Spokane, WA.  I got the latest version of the MapSend Topo USA software and a 512 MB card and was able to put in a 247 MB region that covered western Wisconsin, the northern 3/4 or so of Minnesota, most of North and South Dakota, most of Montana, northern Wyoming, the northern 2/3 of Idaho and eastern Washington.  The roads and highways seemed pretty up to date, I could locate restaurants and hotels in my vicinity, and the topo mapping in the mountains was exceptional.  I recently factory upgraded my Magellan Meridian GPS to the Magellan Meridian Gold, as well as the upgraded to the new MapSend Topo USA software and I am happy I did.  Can't wait to use it in the field this year.

Esox/MI,
Thanks for your replies. I bought the Meridan Gold. I used it to navigate between marinas on the lake where I keep my houseboat. It was a short trip, only about 8 miles, but it worked well. I entered the coordinates of the destination and navigated right to it. I have been playing with it for a couple of days and have a lot of confidence in it. It sure beats the early manufacture Garmin I had about 10yrs ago. I have not downloaded any mapping software yet, but hope to do so in the near future.
