The 25-06 is on its way home!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 02, 2005, 10:39:57 AM »
I just got off the phone with gordon, and he told me my rifle shipped this morning!  They fired it yesterday, using winchester 90 grain factory ammo, and after repairing the broken piece( all he said) on the barrel latch , they were able to produce a gruop between 1 " to 1 1/4" group at 100 yds.    My hat is off to Gordon, he went way out of his way to make this right.  And yeah, I did call him back and say thanks    Now to muster up the patience to wait for UPS to deliver.  I guess I'll spend the time  loading ammo for it ( 2 or 3 hundred rounds should cover the first night  )
I practice gun control, I hit what im shootin at!

:agree:

I suggest trying some Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silver tips thru it...the 115 graines shot extreamly good in mine with the factory loads...I'm glad they got it fixed for you...NEF has some good folks working hard to make us happy in the C/S department.

Don't feel bad on waiting...my 25-06 isn't shipping out till Tuesday or Wensday next week...looks like I'll have to wait a-little longer for my Birthday present...

Let us know how it shoots for you...

I feel your pain Mac!  On the Win 115's, are those factory or handloads?
If hand loads, what powder, and how much??  I have a batch of 117's and  87's ready to load later tonight and I guess Im starting over from scratch.   I have a pistol match on Sunday, so I guess i  ve got a couple hundred 45s to load too.... I guess I better get off my duff and get busy!!!

This was with the factory load...115 Grain Winchester Silver Ballistic Tips...awsome load....

Here's the range report...http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=48130&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=44+mag&&start=35

I really like these 25-06's...my dear ole departed Dad ...well...he's probably laughing his head off at me for having the first one re-bored...it shot great...and hopefully the next one will shoot as well...I got a full can of H1000 to try out on it...and looks like the loading density should be close to 100% for the load...I'll let you all know how it does...

Glad to see that your getting your handi back. Not trying to tell you what do here, but  when I reload I load up different loads ( groups of 5) with different powders and different OALs to find that tight group.   I also record the results in my log book at the range.  of course there are some good factory ammo as Mac and Quick suggested. Best of luck and I look forward to your range report.

It's Lubaox...and one of the really neat things about shooting these bullets is the coating actually reduces pressure...and it doesn't destroy accuracy after shooting them a-lot like moly does...

Quote
Are Lubalox and Moly the same?

NO, Lubalox (CT Ballistic Tip) is an oxide-based coating, which reduces fouling and allows more shooting between cleanings, also Lubalox does not buildup in the barrel and requires only normal cleaning procedures. Moly (CT Fail Safe & Partition Gold) is a molybdenum disulfide coating which reduces fouling and friction. Moly requires a barrel be conditioned by shooting several rounds after cleaning and special cleaning procedures. Accuracy with non-coated bullets may not be up to par in a Moly conditioned barrel.

Norse,
Thats my usal plan of attack also.  But with the pitiful accuracy of the pre-fix up,  Im just gonna have to start from the beginning, and do it all again.   I m gettin a Midway order together right now and we're gonna feed this rifle every type of bullet I can lay my hands on.  I ve never had much luck with a boattail bullet,  but Ill give em a run through the Handi and see what happens.  I'll get this pic posting figured out by the time the gun arrives and I'l post a few of the groups( if I can shoot strait enough to get one worth  postin  )

BD-45:

If you haven't read the sticky about barrel lapping...now would be a good time to do so.Start off reloading the cartridges to the books O.A.L. then start seating them out.I got my best accuracy doing it this way.

The C/T Ballistic Silver Tips...are some very good bullets...but there is one thing to remember ...you'll get your best accuracy with them by not mixing and matching...if your going to shoot them...shoot only them from a completely clean barrel...don't intermix regular copper clad bullets or any moly coated bullets at the same bench session...and what ever you do...don't shoot the Barnes blue coated bullets and these at the same time...it will definatly foul your bore...I made this mistake 1 time...and spent the entire afternoon cleaning out everything...the Barnes Blue coating is a dry moly coating...

And thanks for the heads up on the ballistic tips from Win.  I wouldnt have known about the affect of the differet coatings..  Im learning alot from this site!!!

I wish you the best with your 25-06. I shoot alot of cartridges, (too many)
as gun nuts do, but I will tell you the 25-06 is a kick butt round. Since the
mid 70's I have used it for small varmits up through Whitetail, Mule Deer,
Antelope & big AR. Hogs & it has not let me down! If you choose your
bullet wisely & place it in the boiler room, it will do it's thing. I use a
Handirifle & a Sendero in this round & I would feel a little funny without
one. Once again, good shooting with your quarterbore!
You will not make peace with the Bluecoats, you are free to go.
