I got the 1911/1911a1 shop manual by JK yesterday lots of 1911 info to read up on. I got plenty of time to read now and build it right. Its a book well worth having, lots of tips and tricks. I have been eyeing the armorers video's too. I think if your going to do builds its well worth the expense. I still believe with todays quality and high price a tricked out build can be much better.

I'd be interested to know what kind of tools are needed to build a really accurate 1911.

I'll learn as i go just like everything else. I think i have most of what i need so far.

I'm just looking at the cost of tools right now. So far i'm looking at about $200+ in tools to repair 1911 to tighten up fits on frames and slides. I haven't got to the new tools for building 1911's yet. It looks so far mainly to be barrel fitting tools mostly for bushings/fitting lugs properly. Then the custom work gets into the trigger stuff. Lets face it if your going to work on 1911's and do it right you have to buy the proper tools. I'd rather buy whats needed to do the job and do it myself and learn in the process. I have paid people in the past to work on my stuff(not guns) and i end up fixing their mistakes anyway. I'm really saving aggrivation and doing the job twice by me doing it once. Now is it worth doing yup it still sounds like fun to me. When i get into something i'm interested in i go all the way and learn as much as i can about it.
